About the role As a Research Associate / Assistant, you will support our content and insights work by producing well-structured research briefs and drafting written content on East African real estate. Your work will help inform buyers, tenants, investors, developers, agents, and business owners through articles that are accurate, practical, and clearly sourced. You’ll work closely with our managers to define topics, gather data and reputable sources, create outlines, draft sections, and refine content for publication. Key responsibilities Research & monitoring Track and summarise relevant developments in East African real estate markets (e.g., Kampala, Nairobi, Kigali, Dar es Salaam), including: Residential, commercial (office/retail/industrial), hospitality, land, and new development Infrastructure, transport, and major public/private projects Macro indicators affecting real estate (interest rates, inflation, FX, construction costs) Regulatory/legal changes (land tenure, property taxes, permits, rental rules—where relevant) Build and maintain a reliable “source library” (links, PDFs, datasets, notes) with clean citations. Produce concise research briefs (1–2 pages) with key takeaways, data points, and implications. Data & insight support Find and compile data from credible sources (e.g., national statistics, central banks, IFIs, reputable consultancies). Create simple tables and summaries (e.g., rent ranges, yield assumptions, pipeline snapshots, demographic or affordability indicators). Flag data limitations, conflicting sources, and what can/can’t be concluded. Content writing & editing Support the creation of blog posts, area/neighbourhood guides, and market explainers: Propose angles, outlines, and key arguments Draft sections in a clear tone Edit for clarity, accuracy, structure, and consistency Apply internal style guidance (headings, short paragraphs, bullet points, calls-to-action, and compliance-friendly language). Ensure every factual claim is sourced and that citations/links are ready for publication. Workflow & coordination Maintain a topic pipeline (what we’re writing next, priority, status), defined together with the managers. Work with the team on deadlines and revisions; incorporate feedback quickly. Keep organised documentation so research is reusable across multiple pieces. Requirements Must-have Strong research skills: ability to find, evaluate, and summarise credible information quickly. Excellent writing in English (British spelling preferred): clear structure, logical flow, clean grammar. Comfort working with numbers/data: basic analysis, tables, and sanity-checking assumptions. close attention to detail and integrity with sources (no unsourced claims, no “copy-paste” content). Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and hit deadlines. Nice-to-have (strong advantage) Familiarity with East Africa (markets, business context, or real estate sector) is highly valued. Background in real estate, economics, urban planning, finance, journalism, or research roles. Experience writing investor-focused content (market reports, research notes, long-form explainers). SEO basics (search intent, keywords, internal linking, metadata) Ability to produce simple visuals (charts/tables) using Excel/Google Sheets. Knowledge of land tenure and property market dynamics in Uganda/Kenya/Rwanda/Tanzania. Working arrangement Part-time or full-time; remote or hybrid (East Africa time zones preferred). The candidate is required to have the necessary infrastructure to work remotely (laptop, reliable internet connection, ...) Output-based: weekly briefs + a target number of article drafts/sections per month.
